In 2025, Jacy Werner — 23 years old and just weeks out of college — got a call from his mother, Linda Jass. She had just purchased an old barn and farmhouse in her small Iowa hometown and was beginning the long process of restoring it. But almost immediately, she ran into a problem: she couldn't find a single electrician, plumber, or carpenter available to help.
Small-town America runs on word of mouth. Skilled tradespeople are everywhere — but often invisible to anyone who isn't already connected to the right local network.
Linda saw the gap firsthand. Jacy understood the system behind it. Together, they asked the same question: Why should finding skilled professionals depend on who you know?
That conversation became the beginning of Cutterfy.
Linda brought the real-world problem and a deep understanding of community networks, relationships, and the people who keep local economies running. Jacy brought a rare combination of technical and hands-on experience — a data science degree, years of construction work alongside his handyman father, and firsthand experience operating heavy machinery on Iowa job sites.
They understood both the people doing the work and the people searching for it.
